Webinar: Strategies for Delivering Video to Tablets & Mobile Devices
Consumption of broadband-delivered video is climbing sharply as consumers choose video on-demand (VOD) versus scheduled programming. Longer work days, more travel, and a proliferation of devices that enable ubiquitous access to broadband networks anywhere, anytime are driving this demand. Research from The Diffusion Group (TDG) predicts that by 2020 the consumption of broadband video — content stored and distributed over an open IP architecture — will surpass the consumption of traditional broadcast TV programming. Watch Streaming Media’s free webinar to learn the best strategies and practices to get started delivering your videos to connected IP devices.
Subscription-based Cable TV Revenues Falling
With the proliferation of IP devices, better broadband delivery speeds, and growing consumption of premium video content, consumers are increasingly looking to watch and interact with their favorite programs anywhere, anytime. In response to this demand, there has been an explosion in alternative, lower-priced broadband-delivered TV offerings without a satellite or cable subscription from broadband video players. Cable, satellite, and telecommunications companies are being forced to invest in more competitive strategies, such as TV Everywhere, to deliver truly interactive, multi-screen viewing experiences and stem customer churn. Facebook Brand Page Follies
This post first appeared on DigiDay Daily. You can read the original here, along with the follow-up, The Like Trap, by DigiDay Editor-in-Chief Brian Morrissey For the past 15 years, “fish where the fish are” has been the mantra of anyone in digital media. At the end of the millennium, that meant “AOL Keyword: Acme Corp.” In the mid-2000s, it meant the Acme Corp Second Life store. And in 2011, it means “find us on Facebook.” Now marketing on the site du jour is not in and of itself a grievous error. It’s just that most brands get so blinded by the bright shiny objects, they forget even the most basic rules of marketing. Let’s start with metrics: for many brands, the only sign of an effective Facebook page is the presence of many, many “fans.” (e.g. people who have hit the “Like” button.) It’s an easy number to achieve: there are actually companies that will guarantee you x number … Continue reading

Internet Video is no Longer Just About Web Video
The number of people who consume video over the internet is growing at an astounding rate and when you combine that with the proliferation of smartphones and connected TVs, these audiences are becoming increasingly fragmented. Mobile for instance is now the fastest growing sector in video consumption. Not the largest, but the fastest growing, with 40% year over year growth from 2009. In Q4 of 2010 alone, almost 30 million people watched video on a mobile device – and then of course there are connected TVs. According to Forrester, by 2015 there will be over 43 million connected TV households in the US. Also by 2015, 58% of TVs sold will be internet connected and 34% of US households will have a connected TV. At the same time, social is no longer a nice to have – it’s become an absolute requirement for engaging audiences, and consumers now expect and demand a social experience. Facebook alone is now boasting over … Continue reading

KIT digital To Hold Webinar- The iPad: A Fourth Screen or Just Another Device? The Impact of Tablet Computers for Business Communications
Wed April 7th 2010 at 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM EDT The recent launch of Apple’s iPad has generated a wide range of opinions and some confusion when trying to answer the question, “What is the iPad?”. It has been described as an “iPod Touch on steroids” and the “ultimate electronic reader”. This webinar will specifically focus on answering the question of how the iPad and tablet devices in general will impact business communications including IP video. At the first glance, the iPad seems to come as a replacement for an old fashioned clipboard, opening up new opportunities for interactivity with its large, mobile screen. Will it become a new employee training tool, a corporate communications device or a revolutionary media consumption gadget? Is it a true 4th screen or just a version of its mobile predecessors? Behind The Scenes: KIT digital Shoots Demo for Our VX-one Platform
Yesterday we started filming the demo of our VX-one platform capabilities. Below are some behind the scenes photos of the shoot, which we are really excited about and expect to release shortly. KIT digital’s VX-one platform leads the industry in enabling businesses to ingest, manage, and deliver video to internal and external audiences. Our software is used worldwide to increase operational efficiency of large corporations and drive revenue for publishers and syndicators of video.
Your user experience is losing my attention
The level of enjoyment that we derive from consuming media is often regulated by the quality of the delivery mechanism. In simple terms: the experience is just as important as your content. As a content owner or producer (whether external or internal) your role is to maximize the amount of eyeball time each piece of content that you produced or acquired receives. As a media and entertainment manager, viewer retention directly results in advertising revenue and brand enhancement; while an enterprise internal communications manager spreads the cost of the implementation around the number of people the message (be it training of managerial in nature) has reached. When presenting content online you have to realize that the opportunity cost for the viewer is every single other piece of content on the internet. That is a lot of competition. The hardest part is not getting a user to a video page of your website, its keeping them there and coming back. The … Continue reading

KIT digital Hosts Breakfast at the 9th Annual ePharma Summit in Philadelphia
Brian Kaufman and I presented this morning at the ePharma conference in Philadelphia. Our presentation was aimed at providing some provocative and challenging insights for pharmaceutical marketers around the power of online video. We started with four facts which should encourage all marketers to think about online video in a different light: Online video is now the single fastest growing media on global basis. Ever. By 2015, 95% of data consumed online will be video Skype – quickly emerging as THE one-to-one video communication platform – has more users than Facebook, Myspace and Twitter, combined. mlb.com now has more unique users coming in from mobile than from a browser We talked about KIT digital and some of our global implementations, and from the feedback we received, the most compelling section of the presentation was the challenge we thew out toward the end. Brian and I suggested that the Pharmaceutical marketers in the room think about: Using the iPad as a … Continue reading
Super Bowl 2.0: Advertisers Utilize IP Video & Social Networking to Generate Buzz Around Gameday Spots
Maximizing Brand Exposure Nearly 40 advertisers bought ad time in the CBS broadcast spending $2 million to $3 million per 30 seconds of the Super Bowl’s traditional TV commercial time. This year, however, companies jumped on the social media bandwagon to build hype on their ads prior to gameday and maximize their brand exposure. The goal being to get the game’s massive audience to watch their Super Bowl ad — then click on the brand’s website and share the brand’s video on Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and other social networks. Measuring “Buzz” Factor In this Super Bowl, companies will be measuring everything to see if they got their money’s worth. Advertisers will count tweets, visits to their Facebook pages and visits to the brand’s site to see how many times their videos were watched/mentioned. IP Video Has Created a Digital Water-Cooler According to a survey by an ad agency, nearly 100 million viewers are expected to watch the game on Sunday. … Continue reading
Apple iPad: Not Just “A Giant iPod Touch”
Apple designers have been stressing for years that the best way to create a technological icon is adapting it to human behavior rather than the other way around. The latest Steve Jobs’ miracle – much fabled and finally announced Apple iPad – embodies the IP video revolution that is yet to come at unthinkable scale. It will change the way we consume video and do so in the most seamless way you can imagine. Yes, skeptics title it as “just a giant iPod touch” and criticize it for some inevitable limitations that only seem disappointing in the wake of unprecedented hype that the iPad received months following up to its launch. However unlike its musical predecessor, iPad gives us a large and light enough screen to take video anywhere we go. Movies and TV shows Some predict that the seeming lack of Adobe Flash support would preclude services like Hulu, Netflix and other video sites from showing off their video … Continue reading

Basics for Adding Video to your Website
As organizations incorporate online video as part of their communication strategy, their websites need to be designed in a manner that allows the video to integrate seamlessly into the page. Whether you are retrofitting your website to accommodate video, or rebuilding it from scratch, below are a few simple things to consider when adding video clips to your page. Aspect Ratio Online video is trending away from the 4:3 aspect ratio towards the 16:9 aspect ratio. This provides a more cinematic and modern feel to your story. When preparing your original video assets, consider the 16:9 aspect ratio. Column Width Although most video players provide the flexibility to be resized to fit into the allotted space on your page, video quality can sometimes suffer as a result of resizing. Video sizes that are too small can lose their impact. Consider encoding to standard video sizes and incorporate that into your page layout so you can avoid having to resize your … Continue reading

Actually they aren’t so new … The Apple Newton hit the market in 1992, and was regarded as the first Tablet-PC. Picture reference: www.apple.com Recently, there have been some releases from E-Book readers and announcements/presentations for new Tablet-PCs. These two classes should not be confused with each other! While most E-Book readers are equipped with monochrome displays (focused on sharp contrast not on rapid changes) – unfit to display moving images, the Tablet-PCs boast high-resolution color displays specifically designed for consumption of moving images. Picture reference: www.sony.com Let’s take the iPhone as an example. Apple impressively demonstrated that you can have success with a new platform (the App Store) when you have a good implementation, easy usage and a good concept. Now we transfer this to the Tablet-PC … Continue reading
KIT digital Counts Down the 5 Most Influential IP Videos of 2009
The KIT digital team of editors and IP-video experts selected the 5 most important IP-videos of 2009. These videos were chosen for their influence over the development and implementation of IP-video as a content channel, and how they’re shaping the further advancement and uses of the technology. KIT digital editors focused specifically on the extent to which the video implementation delivers content that would not have been available via mainstream means, the degree to which the IP-video influences the event itself and the scale to which the video or IP-video event represents a shift in viewing patterns by audiences. 5. GM Reinvents Themselves Post Bankruptcy: Perhaps the most significant new development for IP-video in 2009 has been the rapid adoption of this communication tool by businesses for investor and media relations. GM used IP-video to restore, retain and grow confidence in their business by live-streaming their most important corporate announcements in 2009. Big businesses take notice. 4. Using Video for Non-profits: The Humane Society Raises Awareness of Its Horse Rescue Efforts
The spirit of the holidays really took hold today as I was demonstrating a newly designed site for our client, The Humane Society, and I got caught up in watching content around some recent horse rescue efforts. Sometimes their content is tough to watch, but if you have a few minutes, I’d encourage you to watch this piece on a recent horse rescue mission. It’s really quality storytelling. Be sure to click on the “donate” button to show your support. In the bigger picture, hats off to the entire team at Humane Society. They recently re-launched their site with great quality 16×9 content, calls to action, and a very tight integration with video in almost all the messaging they do. Any organization looking to see how it’s done right should look no further than their site. Send me an email to learn more. brian.kaufman@kit-digital.com Brian Kaufman Client Solutions Director, NYC // = 0; i=i-1){ if (l[i].substring(0, 1) == ‘ ‘) … Continue reading
KIT digital gathers 53 key team members in Cairo for our 2nd Biannual Sales Summit
As the KIT digital global business has expanded in the last 6 months, there has been an even greater need to sit in the same room and compare notes from the IP-video space around the world. And so late last month we held our second biannual sales summit in Cairo. We chose Cairo because we have a sizable (20+ professionals) operation there, yet it’s a place few of our team members have visited. The opportunity to meet and spend time with the KIT Cairo team members was invaluable. The summit focused on the next phase of the IP-video revolution and the ongoing integration of our global sales and customer service teams. For me, it was a series of firsts! Recently joining the KIT digital team as Global Communications Manager (my first day on the job actually being the first day of the summit), it was great to meet such a passionate group of people, all of whom have a perspective … Continue reading

KIT digital @ MIPCOM 2009: Press Coverage
This year’s MIPCOM conference was an exciting event for our team. Our efforts did not go unnoticed by the press. Video Age published a front page article exploring the growing trend in IPTV for the living room. Our president, Gavin Campion was interviewed for the article stressing four key points that traditional broadcasters should hear: IPTV… makes content cheap to distribute massivel increases available population makes it easy to monetize content opens up new market for distribution Our CEO’s participation in the Catch-Up TV Panel was also well received. MIPCOM News reported on the event and made a point highlighting Kaleil’s point about the future of Catch-Up TV:
KIT digital @ MIPCOM 2009: Tuesday and Wednesday prove to be busier than ever.
Our second day at the MIPCOM conference in Cannes was a busy one! Even though we have a bigger team here than ever, we’ve been incredibly busy raising awareness for the industry in a market so classically dominated by traditional digital technologies. Tuesday marked the renewal of our relationship with The Associated Press who use our Digital Junction module to manage, syndicate and deliver video news content. For those not able to attend our CEO’s panel on Catch-Up TV on Wednesday at MIPCOM, you will be able to view the video on this blog in a few days.
